In a snapshot: A medieval hilltop village where history and contemporary, glamorous and rustic meet to create a unique cultural experience.
It’s something many of us have dreamt of, and perhaps something not many have done. Which is: whilst on holiday (in this case Tuscany in Italy), fallen in love with the landscape, the food and people and thought, “let’s buy a property Continue reading →
No longer does camping mean sagging tents, food from a can (and who packed the tin-opener by the way?) and rock solid mattresses. Oh no. The world has changed – and it has changed a lot. Welcome to the world of luxury camping, where tents are enormous, beds are sink-into comfortable with soft squashy pillows Continue reading →
“Macarons only weigh a few grams, but that’s enough to leave your senses quivering with pleasure. Their thin, crisp shell, slightly rounded shape, tempting colours and tender interiors draw devotees to devour them with their eyes, and caress their smooth surface. Their flavours solicit the nose and, when one bites into that crisp shell, the ears tingle with pleasure and the palate is finally rewarded.” Pierre Hermé.
For us it’s a deal-breaker – in fact, tell you a secret, we’re a little bit obsessive about bathrooms, and for sure this Pootler raves about a place when a closer inspection reveals the absence of scales and instead the presence of thick, big fluffy towels and organic smellies. An hour north of Lisbon, on a stretch of incredibly deserted sand dunes lies a brand new gem, just waiting to be discovered. Tired of never finding a hotel they liked, Marta Fonseca and Gonçalo Alves set about creating one themselves and they have done it in style. Environmentally friendly (there is even a meter charting minute by minute water and electricity consumption from the kitchen to the spa in reception) Areias do Seixo (yes, we found the name difficult to pronounce as well), roughly translated as “place of pebbles” has been designed to be in tune with nature. Whilst the building is spanking new concrete and glass the interior is very different. The décor has been inspired by the colours and warmth from Cape Verde to Marrakech, driftwood from the beaches can be found Continue reading →
Every now and then we turn a corner and wow, our mouths drop open and then a huge, whopping smile takes over and we give our heads a little shake of wonder. These are the stuff of legendary holidays, of lounging and sun-cream, of curling sun-baked books and stone slabs that get too hot to walk on, of the splish and splash Continue reading →
